We celebrate planting the Kalmus flower in our very own RHANDERS Forest - right on the brim of the 2 hectares large lake.
While we have planted and nurtured ten-thousands of trees, plants and flowers, this adds a special symbolic meaning to our biodiversity and CO2 positive quest, as the Kalmus flower has pollinated our history and heritage since the 1250's.
To mark this in style, we asked our friend and art collaborator, Mette Boesgaard, to create a special illustration of the Kalmus. This resulted in a botanical styled Kalmus in bloom, which nods to the graphical Kalmus brandmark adorning all our products.
KALMUS HISTORY
Originally an Indian medical plant, the Kalmus was brought to the water streams in Randers by French monks during the Middle Ages. By coincidence the tanners, working along the stream, discovered that rubbing the leather with the Kalmus plant, left the leather not only soft, but also with a beautiful recognisable scent. This characteristic scent, together with the gloves' incredible softness, made European Royals and Aristocrats specifically request gloves from Randers. Allegedly, French Queen Marie Antoinette wore the gloves to enhance her beauty sleep...

KALMUS ARTWORKS
The acclaimed illustrator, Mette Boesgaard, went on an artful Kalmus journey and arrived with the creation of two main motifs as a homage to the Kalmus plant's rich legacy in our heritage and history; River Kalmus and Botanical Kalmus.
These motifs were crafted into 100 % organic cotton scarves, as well as, a small, meaningful range of upcycled products.
UPCYCLED KALMUS ARTWORKS
A range of small articles, such as eye masks, lavender pouches and toiletry bags have been crafted with upcycled leftovers from the River Kalmus and Botanical Kalmus Scarves. Meaning, they are made with care in more than one sense. They help fulfill our zero-waste-policy, are made from 100 % organic cotton and given a new life, when they didn't meet the high quality control for full scarves. They were remixed into meaningful and functional objects - either helping your beauty sleep or getting organised in style.
