RHANDERS driving gloves have been developed since 1957 with a focus on grip, comfort and world-class craftsmanship.
Originally created to improve control behind the wheel, the driving glove has evolved into an iconic design that unites function, materials and style – worn by royal chauffeurs, racing drivers and as part of the modern wardrobe.

FROM FUNCTIONAL SOLUTION TO MODERN ICON

In 1957, RHANDERS developed the world’s first driving glove, designed to combine warmth, protection and enhanced grip.

It was a time when the automobile became part of everyday life. Yet comfort was limited – with no heating in the cabin and smooth, cold steering wheels. The driving glove was therefore developed as a functional solution – to enhance driving pleasure and safety. Initially sought after by connoisseurs and professional chauffeurs, and later embraced by the wider public.

The purpose was clear:
to improve grip, increase control and create a direct connection between hand and steering wheel.

These qualities remain the foundation of the driving glove today. At the same time, the design has evolved beyond functionality. Today, the driving glove is an iconic product within the RHANDERS collection – and our second best-selling glove.

This reflects its role not only in driving, but as part of a modern lifestyle. A glove associated with speed, freedom and a sense of adventure.

CONSTRUCTION AND FIT – DEVELOPED FOR PRECISION

A driving glove must support the hand – never restrict it.

RHANDERS driving gloves are constructed with a focus on movement, flexibility and direct contact. The glove is unlined, allowing for enhanced sensitivity and control. It is often said that a glove should fit like a “second skin” – crafted so finely that one can feel the surface of a coin through it.Elegant driving gloves for women, the Diana Rolls-Royce in brown from RHANDERS is crafted from the finest lamb leather adorned with a 14 karat gold-plated Kalmus flower snap button

The fit is ergonomically developed, allowing the glove to shape uniquely to the hand and follow its natural movements. After a season of wear, the glove becomes so personalised that it will only fit its owner.

The characteristic perforations provide ventilation and comfort, particularly during extended use, while the construction ensures the glove retains its shape over time.

The result is a glove that feels like a natural extension of the hand.

CRAFTSMANSHIP AND STITCHING – A HIGHLY SPECIALISED DISCIPLINE

The driving glove is a technical product where craftsmanship is essential.

Each glove is designed, developed and refined with more than 200 years of experience and hand-cut according to traditional glove-making principles. Every stage requires precision – from selecting the leather to the final stitching.

The gloves are sewn using full piqué, an advanced technique mastered by fewer than 20 specialised glove makers worldwide.

This technique ensures:
• a glove without internal seams
• a close and precise fit
• enhanced durability in high-stress areas

The knuckle holes are hand-sewn and reinforced with millimetre precision. This requires experience, a steady hand and deep material understanding.

It is a level of craftsmanship that cannot be industrialised.

MATERIALS – FROM LAMBSKIN TO PECCARY

Material selection directly influences both function and comfort.

RHANDERS driving gloves are crafted from the finest lambskin, selected for its suppleness, strength and ability to adapt to the hand. The leather is breathable and flexible, making it suitable for both short and extended drives.

For those seeking the finest, driving gloves are also available in peccary.

Peccary is the world’s most exclusive glove leather, sourced from South America. It is characterised by:
• an exceptionally soft surface
• high elasticity
• remarkable durability

The material is rare and regulated under CITES guidelines and the Washington Convention, ensuring responsible and controlled trade.

Peccary combines luxury and performance and is used where the highest standards of comfort and longevity are required.

RACING DRIVERS AND ROYAL CHAUFFEURS

Today, the driving glove is used by both professionals and private individuals.

Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen uses our original Frederik driving gloves when driving, where precision and consistent grip are essential. The Frederik glove is crafted entirely from lambskin, offering a sponge-like technical grip that almost adheres to the steering wheel, ensuring stable control.

In the Danish Royal Household, unlined white gloves are used daily by chauffeurs. A particular anecdote illustrates both satisfaction and durability:

When new gloves were to be ordered one year, the chauffeurs were asked whether they wished to replace their current pairs. They declined. Their existing gloves had been in use for 12 years and still fitted perfectly.

The Chamberlain later wrote to RHANDERS:
“I do not understand how you can run a business when your products last this long.”

This underlines the longevity of the driving glove and its ability to adapt to the wearer over time.

ROLLS-ROYCE x RHANDERS

In collaboration with Rolls-Royce, RHANDERS further developed the classic driving glove. Craft recognises craft – and this formed a natural partnership rooted in shared values.

The objective was not to change the essence, but to expand its application. The glove was adapted to modern usage, where functionality and technology play an increasing role.

The updated version includes:
• a flexible one-size fit with strategically placed lycra panels covering up to 86% of sizes
• integrated touch technology throughout the glove – compatible with both in-car systems and mobile devices
• continued focus on driving comfort, performance and material quality

The collaboration is built on shared principles: craftsmanship, precision and material expertise.

FROM THE ROAD TO THE RUNWAY

The driving glove today has a broader application than ever before.

It is used both functionally and as part of a fashion wardrobe. Karl Lagerfeld made the driving glove part of his signature – a symbol of control and elegance. Madonna has also embraced the driving glove, in both leather and lace, as an iconic styling element.

Series such as Emily in Paris have reintroduced the fingerless driving glove as a contemporary accessory. The shorter version is well suited for everyday wear and can be worn throughout the day – including social settings. It also highlights the hand, adding a visual element where manicure becomes part of the expression.

RHANDERS driving gloves continue to feature in international fashion shows, where traditional craftsmanship is integrated into modern styling.

A TIMELESS DESIGN – 70 YEARS AND COUNTING

The driving glove is designed for use – and to evolve over time.

The material shapes itself to the hand, and the fit improves with wear. Over time, a natural patina develops, giving the glove character and individuality.

This makes the driving glove a product that is not only used – but becomes part of the wearer. Today, it is increasingly worn as a lifestyle glove, reflected in its position as RHANDERS’ second best-selling model.

A timeless glove that remains relevant – and can be styled across seasons in a wide range of colours and finishes.
